Rupert first became interested in 3D after “doing some really fun polystyrene sculpting for a TV series,” but it wasn’t until he returned from his big OE that he decided to really pursue it as a career. “I discovered that making things was only half the fun, moving them was even better!”

Rupert’s main roles in Das Tub were initial Previz Animation, building the generic rig for the sub and shuttle, and the underwater exterior shots. “I created grunge/turbulence particle systems for a couple of shots, and the nCloth simulation for the submarine collision damage. I love working in a collaborative team environment, the enthusiastic and frenetic bouncing around of ideas and the result at the end of it.”

Kirsten comes from a background in the broadcasting industry and with the desire to "make the transition into movies" studying the art of 3D, and ultimately compositing, was the way forward. "I enjoy the open ended creativity that 3D gives a person and the potential to create anything your mind can dream of, creating a finished work of art that combines the world of CG and live footage together is what gets my blood going."

His main role on Das Tub was the Key Nuke Compositor handling all the interior shots of the sub, pulling keys, tracking, rotoscoping, rotopainting, integrating CG and live footage and colour grading.

    Modelling and Texturing

Jonathan’s primary on Das Tub was to model the submarine exterior. “Three seperate models were created with stepped levels of detail. The one day previz model allowed the team to get started straight away on developing shots. The five week high detail model was used for final production renders and a third model with reduced deck detail was created for some shots to reduce render times. I also worked with Nuke to develop the final look for post production, colour grading some underwater shots and adding photographic elements to the renders."

Andrew's adroit modelling and lighting skills took care of the interior environment of the Das Tub sub including the design, modelling, texturing, lighting, animating and colour grading. Andrew was also responsible for the Space Shuttle modelling and texturing and the sonar screen design and animation."

He especially enjoys "creating visually impactful stuff", and has an ultimate goal of becoming an Art Director in the film industry.

Priyan has been interested in CG "from his younger days", first starting out with flash animation which then led into studying 3D. In the early days for the Das Tub production he was involved in the Previs, setting up cameras and the animation on some of the under water shots.

"Then I moved on to the underwater look development which included grunge using particles, lighting & fluid setup. Throughout the final stages my main task was to render shots, fix problems encountered and some compositing."
